BundGuard®
Automatic oil spill protection for bunded storage
Every outdoor oil store in Ireland has the same quiet problem: rain. Bunds exist to catch oil if a tank or transformer fails, but left open to the weather, they steadily fill with rainwater, and every litre of water in the bund is a litre of containment you no longer have. Because oil floats, a part-full bund can let a spill straight over the wall.
Why bunds fail when you need them
- Regulations require above-ground oil storage to have secondary containment holding at least 110% of the tank’s contents
- Rainwater erodes that margin week by week
- Manual pump-outs are slow, expensive and risk discharging contaminated water
- When a tank does fail, a waterlogged bund offers little protection, and the clean-up, fines and reputational damage land on the site operator
How BundGuard works
- Developed by Andel in the UK and proven since 1992, with more than 50,000 units installed worldwide
- A robust stainless-steel sensor and submersible pump sit in a sump within the bund, continuously discriminating between oil and water
- Clean rainwater is pumped away automatically; the moment oil is detected, discharge stops and the alarm is raised
- Full containment capacity is maintained 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, without tanker call-outs or routine site visits
Where it’s used
- Transformer bunds and substations
- Standby generator fuel tanks at data centres, hospitals and telecoms sites
- Heating oil and fuel storage across commercial and industrial premises
- Anywhere oil is stored outdoors, and your compliance record depends on the bund doing its job
